On Denim

It seems like for the past couple of seasons, denim has been overlooked. Most designers opt for a sleeker and sportier look leaving our faithful and most loyal fabric behind. Since its introduction, its popularity has skyrocketed with the help of Levi Strauss. Jeans are the staple of many wardrobes.
This season we see new incarnations of our beloved textile not by composition of the material but by the silhouettes, shades and applications. Fashion, while treading new ground for the future with its activewear-inspired looks, desires to preserve our past steps. Denim is a highly profitable industry that will not be easily stamped out.

LARGE GRAPHIC PRINTS

There is a continuation of the graphic prints that we've been seeing but this time they are a bit larger in the 2015 resort collections.

The minimalism of colors really helps this print come alive. It also aids in presenting the jumpsuit even more.

This pop art inspired birds of paradise print is pretty and mysterious. It alludes to the outfits inspiration.

Reign of Irreverence

Moschino Resort 2015 - Review - Vogue

With pops of colors and hair resembling that of an abused Barbie by the hands of a 4 year old, Jeremy Scott's wild and viciously commercial influence continues at Moschino. In this 2015 resort collection for Moschino, it seems Scott pays his dues to '90s grunge, urban wear and cotton candy colors. While most designers use boxy silhouettes with rich hues, he goes the opposite way. This collection hosts a myriad of looks -while some seem more for Scott's fancy. The collection goes from pastels to golds to blacks to nudes. with a lot of pop culture references, Jeremy Scott has fun at Moschino while keeping an eye on his market. The clothes make you think and inspire the possibilities. Wildly irreverent and effortlessly cool.

CUFFED JEANS MAKING A COMEBACK

Christopher Kane Resort 2015 - Runway Photos - Vogue
While browsing Christopher Kane's resort collection for 2015, I happened upon a curious look. I was taken aback. The look flabbergasted me at first. I didn't know whether I liked it or not. At first glance, the blouse reminded me of the excess of Ed Hardy and I was a bit appalled.  I must say the blouse could have been on the verge of appearing super outdated if the strategically placed flowers weren't so graphic and modern in appearance. I'm also a bit exhausted by the trend of appliques on sheer fabrics, but this gives the sheer trend a new breath of life. It's nowhere near being inappropriate like most looks. Now the more I look at it and take it in I love the look. Straight leg cuffed jeans (a seemingly ordinary item) can look superb with a great pair of heels. The look is great for an editorial or a street style look. It brings back the relaxed casualness we were so accustomed to but left behind for the athletic inspired clothing of recent times. When most of the resort looks have loose silhouette looks and single pops of color, this look changes the atmosphere and I love it for that.

Round Shoulders For Fall 2014

This fall the best way to go is with a round shoulder coat or jacket. Round shoulders can be found on on long sleeved dresses, coats, and even bomber jackets. Remember to keep the look a bit loose. You don't want it super fitted. Good riddance square shoulders!

I personally love the statement coats! Remember your coat should pack a punch! For the sake of composition, I chose examples in black but you should be aware that there are a myriad of colors for you to play with this fall/winter.

THE ART OF EXAGGERATION

avant gardeJean Paul Gaultier orange avant garde couture

From wardrobes to plastic surgery, the human being has always sought to be bigger and better. Since our humble beginnings as single cell life forms we have transformed drastically into the dominant creatures we are today. From chopines exaggerating height to bum rolls, we have truly perfected the art of exaggeration. Even with our incredible possession of language, we are at times stretching the limits of truth.

We exaggerate to better our social or emotional standing to others. While we are so intelligent sometimes we can't help but to revert to behavior common to our animal kingdom brethren.
